Arroyo City, Texas History:
Arroyo City was first settled by Mexican cattle ranchers in the 1860s. A post office was established in 1887, and discontinued in 1907. It’s primarily activities are fishing and bird watching. Arroyo City is marked as Arroyo on maps. It is located on the Arroyo Colorado on FM 2925, 10.6 miles northeast of Rio Hondo, 20 miles south of Port Mansfield, 20 miles north of Port Isabel, and a few miles northwest of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. From the FM 106 Arroyo Colorado Bridge in Rio Hondo, continue through the town of Rio Hondo then go left onto FM 2925 at the flashing light approximately 2 miles east of Rio Hondo. Drive 8.6 miles to the town; the town begins at the curve by the first RV park and continues until FM 2925 ends at Adolph Thomae County Park.
