Ray Roberts Lake State Park Information:
This park is located on the banks of the 20 mile long, 25,600 acre Ray Roberts Lake, and consists of three units, the 1,397 acres Isle du Bois Unit, the 1,514 acres Johnson Branch Unit, the Sanger Unit and full service marina, and the 477 acre Jordan Unit and its beautiful Lone Star Lodge. The 20 mile long multiuse Ray Roberts Greenbelt Trail system follows the heavily wooded banks of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Ray Roberts Lake is in Denton, Cooke and Grayson counties. It was impounded on the Elm Fort of the Trinity River in 1987. Park wildlife includes Mexican free-tailed bats, brown bats, opossum, beaver, plains pocket gopher, eastern gray squirrel, fox squirrel, cottontail, white-tailed deer, nine-banded armadillo, raccoon, mink, striped skunk, gray fox, coyote, bobcat, lizards and snakes, such as copperhead, cottonmouth, bull snake, rat snake, and ribbon snake. Ray Roberts Lake Information:
Originally known as Aubrey Reservoir, the 25,600 surface acre Ray Roberts Lake was created on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River to provide water to the Cities of Dallas and Denton. The dam is located in Denton County. The 20 mile long lake was impounded in 1987, and has a maximum depth of 106 feet. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers leased the lake to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department who manages all lake facilities and lake activities. Facilities include the three units of Ray Roberts Lake State Park (Johnson Branch Unit, Isle Du Bois Unit, and the Jordan Unit), the Ray Roberts Lake WMA, satellite parks, and the 40 acre Elm Fork Nature Preserve. Lake Ray Roberts is located 10 miles north of Denton, Texas off FM 455.

Ray Roberts Lake Wildlife Management Area Information:
This 41,303 acre Wildlife Management Area was established after the completion of Ray Roberts Lake in 1987. The WMA property includes the 25,600 acre Ray Roberts Lake. The WMA is located in the Eastern Cross Timbers, a narrow strip of wooded terrain bordering the Blackland Prairies of north central Texas. Wildlife includes opossum, Mexican free-tailed bats, brown bats, beaver, plains pocket gopher, eastern gray squirrel, fox squirrel, eastern cottontail, white-tailed deer, nine-banded armadillo, raccoon, mink, striped skunk, gray fox, coyote and bobcats. Bird species include greater roadrunner, painted bunting, scissor-tailed flycatcher, hawks, woodpeckers, ducks, great blue heron, American white pelican, eastern screech owl and great horned owl. Wintering bald eagles are occasionally sighted. Snake species include copperhead, cottonmouth, bullsnakes, rat snakes and ribbon snakes. Year round WMA activities include hunting, fishing, hiking and wildlife viewing. Visitors wanting to fish need not register at the WMA, but are encouraged to do so.
