Caddo Mills, Texas
Caddo Mills Texas History:
Caddo Indians arrived in the 1850s and camped near the banks of Caddo Creek. In the 1870s, I. T. Johnson and Henry King built a gristmill a mile west of the present townsite. A store opened and a community developed in the gristmill area. Early settlers referred to the community as Caddo Mills after the gristmill. The Caddo Mills post office was established in 1879. By the early 1880s, the community had 100 residents. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad built a line through town in 1886, causing Caddo Mills to grow rapidly over the next few decades. The town incorporated in the early 1940s.
