Anna Texas History
In 1867, John F. Greer established a home and store. The Anna community grew up around the store. In 1873, the Houston and Texas Central Railway built a line through the community. The Anna post office opened that same year. Anna was platted in 1883 when it had 20 residents. It incorporated in 1913. In 1915, the Greenville and Northwestern Railway built a line between Anna and Blue Ridge via Westminster. This line was unsuccessful and was abandoned in 1920. Anna is located at the intersections of U.S. 75, SH 5 (North Powell Parkway and McKinney Street), SH 121 and FM 455, 42.6 miles northeast of Dallas, 37 miles northeast of Garland and Ray Hubbard Lake, 31.6 miles northeast of Little Elm and Lewisville Lake, 13.5 miles northeast of McKinney, 41.3 miles northeast of Denton, 33 miles slightly southeast of Pilot Point and Lake Ray Roberts, 33 miles south of Denison and Lake Texoma, 30.5 miles southwest of Bonham and Bonham State Park, 41 miles northwest of Greenville, 22 miles northwest of Lake Lavon, and 18 miles northwest of Wylie, Texas.
 
Annual GACC Golf Four Man Scramble Tournament, April:
Registration begins at 9:30am. Activities include golf, lunch, and a hors d’ oeuvres reception. Proceeds benefit the Greater Anna Chamber of commerce and the Community charities it supports. This event takes place at the Hurrican Creek Country club at 1800 Fairway Lane. (972) 924-8533.  
 
Annual Fireworks, July 4th:

Annual Anna Glow Fest, Late Oct or Early Nov:
Activities include a 5K run/walk, hot air balloon flights, a glow sky dive demo, stunt kite flying, a Frisbee dog show, a hot rod and classic car show, trick or treating, children’s entertainment, horse shoes, arts and crafts, live music, vendors and karaoke. Annual Christmas Parade, Dec:
Activities include the parade and snacks with Santa. This event is held from noon-2pm in downtown Anna. (972) 924-8533.

Big Orange Pumpkin (Patch) Farm, Gunter, TX:
This pumpkin patch was originally located in Celina, Texas. It has been moved to the Preston Trail Farms in Gunter, Texas. There are hundreds of pumpkins to choose from. Activities include hay bales for climbing and a hay bale maze, over 50 farm animals in the petting zoo, hayrides, and interactive farm signs for the children. The pumpkin farm is open daily, 8am-8pm. There is also a hardware store, and the Preston Trail Farms Café. (972) 382-4995. The farm is located at 15102 SH 289, Gunter, Texas 75078. Gunter is located 22.7 miles north of Frisco, 9.6 miles north of Celina, 22 miles northwest of Melissa, 16.7 miles northwest of Anna, 11 miles west of Van Alstyne, 13 miles east of Tioga, and 17 miles northeast of Pilot Point, Texas.
