Hill Country State Natural Area
Hill Country State Natural Area Information:
This 5,370 acre state natural area was formerly the Merrick Bar-O Ranch. The bulk of the land was donated by Louise Merrick. It opened to the public in 1984. Native American artifacts found within the park show the parkland has been inhabited for several thousand years. Habitat consists of grassy valleys, spring-fed streams, including West Verde Creek, waterfalls, and steep limestone hills. The park is a favorite of mountain bikers and equestrians. All SNA visitors must bring their own drinking water. Wi-Fi is available in the headquarters area. Park entrance and camping fees apply. The SNA is located 10 miles southwest of Bandera.  Hill Country State Natural Area Facilities Map
