Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site
Eisenhower Birthplace State Historical Site Information:  
Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States, was born in this home on October, 14, 1890. The two story wood frame house sits on 6 acres of land, and houses family possessions and antiques. The Visitors Center is located in a historical building and features a gift shop, and exhibits and memorabilia pertaining to the former President and World War II General. The historic Red Store (also known as the Red Barn and the Red Grocery Store) has been renovated, and serves as an education center for the park and the community. The Red Store was purchased by the citizens of Denison and presented to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on Eisenhower's 100th birthday. The 50 person capacity picnic pavilion and the educational facility may be reserved for a nominal fee. Additional amenities include a nine foot tall statue of the former president created by sculptor Robert Dean, picnic tables, restrooms and a hiking trail. The Visitor Center, the Eisenhower home and the picnic pavilion are ADA compliant. A Texas Historical Marker is located at the entrance. Guided tours are available Tuesday through Sunday; the price is included in the admission fee. Public group and school group tours are available by reservation. This park also hosts special programs and events. Former President Eisenhower’s boyhood home in Abilene, Kansas is a National Historical Site. He and his wife Mamie are buried in Abilene. Annual July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza, July:
Activities begin with an afternoon 4th of July Picnic at the Eisenhower Birthplace SHS at 609 South Lamar Avenue, 75021. Picnic activities from noon to 4:30pm include live music, hot dogs, soft drinks, political speeches, an old military vehicles and vintage car show, a parade of vintage vehicles into the park, children’s entertainment, information booths and free guided tours of the Eisenhower Birthplace. The gates at Denison High School’s Munson Stadium (331 W. Morgan Street, 75020) open at 7pm for entertainment, concessions and 9:30pm choreographed fireworks. (903) 464-4452. (903) 465-1551.
Annual Eisenhower Birthday Celebration, Mid-Oct:
Activities include parachute jumps, World War II reenactments, a car show, military vehicle displays, oral histories, veteran’s representatives, Eisenhower Birthplace reenactments, and information on the Perrin AFB Museum, Frontier Village and the Red River Railroad Museum.
