Seabrook Texas History:
In 1900, Seabrook was platted on the site of the former Elmwood Plantation by John Sydnor and E. S. Nicholson of the Clear Creek Development Company. The town was named after Sydnor’s son, Seabrook Sydnor. Many of the first residents were those willing to make the commute to escape the Houston heat and humidity. The Seabrook post office was established in 1895. The Great Storm of 1900 caused major destruction within the community, including destroying the town’s school. The population reached 560 before the Great Depression, and dropped to 200 by 1936. Growth started increasing in the late1940s after the Albert Ernest Fay shipyard was established. Seabrook incorporated in 1961, the same year the SH 146 Bridge connecting Seabrook and Kemah was completed. Seabrook has 11 miles of Galveston Bay waterfront; it provides direct boat access to Galveston Bay within minutes without any sandbars to transverse. Seabrook is bordered on the east by Galveston Bay and on the south side by Clear Lake. Johnson Space Center is located west of town. Seabrook is located on SH 146, 33 miles southeast of Houston, 29. 7 miles southeast of Sheldon, 21 miles southeast of Pasadena, 7.7 miles south of La Porte, 14 miles Southwest of Baytown, 27 miles northwest of Galveston, 5 miles northwest of Bacliff, 1.5 miles northwest of Kemah, 7 miles northeast of League City, 8 miles northeast by road from Clear Lake City, 3 miles northeast of Clear Lake Shores, and 22 miles east of Pearland, Texas.

Bay Area Museum:
The museum features exhibits depicting the history of Clear Lake, Seabrook and the surrounding area. Exhibits include NASA memorabilia, furniture, china, relics from a Karankawa Indian midden, Lunar Rendezvous Festival memorabilia, and the Saibara family Japanese collection. The museum hosts several annual events. This museum is located in the historic Webster Presbyterian Church. (281) 326-5950. Clear Creek Community Theatre, Nassau Bay, Texas:

Bay Area Bluegrass Association Monthly Blue Grass Concerts, League City:
This free blue grass show is held the third Saturday of each month (except July & Dec) at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center in League City. The shows feature local and national artists. Three or four jam rooms are available beginning at 4:30pm; the show begins at 7pm. The Civic Center kitchen provides tasty, inexpensive food and beverages. Door prizes, raffles, and merchandise for sale are offered at every show. The 2010 Texas State Mandolin Contest was held at the August show. Civic Center: 500 W. Walker, League City.

Harris County Evelyn Meador Branch Library, Seabrook:
The library provides traditional library programs, children, youth and adult programs, summer programs, public access computers with internet connections, and free Wi-Fi. This library also serves the community of El Lago. It also offers free Hoopla Digital, a Netflix type service permitting members to download movies, e-books, music and other entertainment to their personal devices.
