Edinburg Scenic Wetlands WBC Information:
The 40 acre Edinburg Scenic Wetlands was the first of the 9 World Birding Centers to open. It is located in the northwest corner of Edinburg Municipal Park on reclaimed farmland, adjacent to the city’s effluent and floodwater ponds. Habitat consists of wetland habitat, 2 wetland ponds, a canal, a dragonfly pond, the Discovery pond and native woodlands. Six acres of wildflowers and a 3.5 acre native butterfly habitat surround the interpretive center, attracting birds, butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies and other wildlife. 2.5 miles of trails intersect the gardens and ponds. Trail amenities include wildlife observation stations. This WBC also operates a plant nursery. The interpretive center’s floor-to-ceiling windows allow unimpeded views of the adjacent pond, the 3.5 acre native butterfly habitat, and the many birds and butterflies. Interpretive Center amenities include fish and aquatic life exhibits, interactive butterfly and birding computer programs, wildlife viewing telescopes, and interpretive audio stations. Special programs include day and night guided tours, such as bird and butterfly walks, sleep outs, grade specific Summer Nature Camps for kids, the Polliwogs Nature Camp for the ages 4-5, a 5th grade wetlands program, a summer internship program and nature lectures. The center also operates the Edinburg Community Garden and partners with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to present RGV Coastal Expo, an annual March event held at the Edinburg Municipal Park. Edinburg Community Garden:  
Garden plots are available to residents of Edinburg; a small annual fee applies. The Community Garden is located at the Scenic Wetlands World Birding Center. The Scenic Wetlands are open Mon-Thu, 8am-5pm; Fri-Sat, 8am-6pm; closed Sundays. The grounds are open daily, sunrise to sunset. (956) 381-9922. The wetlands are located in the northwest corner of Edinburg Municipal Park. From U.S. 83, exit U.S. 281 North. Turn east on University Drive. Go south on Raul Longoria Street to Sprague Street. Go east on Sprague Street until you see the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands on your left.
