Windcrest Texas History:
The town was developed on the farm of Barbee and Murray Winn. It is located in the northeast area of San Antonio, east of IH-35, and north of FM 1976 (Walzem Road), 11.7 miles northeast of San Antonio, 22 miles southwest of New Braunfels, 7 miles southwest of Universal City and Randolph Air Force Base, 4.6 miles southwest of Converse, 4.8 miles south of Kirby, 19 miles northwest of Adkins, and 25 miles north of Elmendorf, Texas.
Retama Park Horse Racing, Selma, Texas:
The park hosts daily (except Christmas Day) simulcast greyhound, thoroughbred and quarter horse races. It also hosts live quarter horse and thoroughbred races on select June through December weekends. Gates open at 10am. Reservations are available for the Clubhouse, Grandstand Box Seats and Terrace Dining. A small Park admission fee applies. Event Center - Windcrest Civic Center:

Annual Windcrest Volunteer Fire Department Picnic & Carnival, May:
Festivities begin with a Friday evening dance with a cash bar. Saturday activities include live music, karaoke, rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, games, a bounce house, a bake sale, a Home Depot crafts center, an auction, raffles and a BBQ dinner. Annual Windcrest Light-Up:
During the Christmas neighborhoods are lite up with holiday light displays; a contest is held to pick the most beautifully decorated homes. Thousands of visitors from Windcrest and neighboring communities drive through viewing the light displays each year. Light-Up begins with a special ceremony at City Hall each mid-December and lasts through New Year’s Eve. Tour maps are available in front of City Hall at 8601 Midcrown.
