Royse City, Texas
Royse City Texas History:
Settlers began arriving in the area in 1885 when they heard that the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad would be constructed through that part of the Rockwall County. A general store opened in December 1885. In 1886, G.B. Royse platted the town and sold the first lots. The Royse City post office opened that same year. Many of the town’s early settlers moved from Fate to be closer to the railroad. By 1890, the community two cotton gins, a gristmill, 20 businesses and 1,000 residents. Royse City incorporated in 1891, voted to become unincorporated in 1902, and then voted to reincorporate in 1906. The community’s population fluctuated until it began a slow rise following the 1968 completion of Lake Ray Hubbard. Royse City is located at the intersections of SH 66, IH-30/U.S. 69 and FM 548, 29.8 miles northeast of Dallas, 24.6 miles northeast of Garland, 9 miles northeast of Rockwall, 32 miles southeast of McKinney, 12 miles southeast of Wylie and Lake Lavon, 29.6 miles southwest of Greenville, 20 miles south of Farmersville, 18 miles northwest of Quinlan and Lake Tawakoni, 33.5 miles northwest of Kaufman, and 21.7 miles northwest of Terrell, Texas.  
Zaner Robison Historical Museum:
The museum features a 1920s-1930s kitchen, a 1940s-1950s school room, photographs, historical artifacts, a glass soda bottle from the early 1900s Royse City Bottle Works, and other exhibits depicting the history of the town. It is housed on the first floor of the 1925 Masonic Building turned fire station. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. C.F. Goodwin Public Library:
The library provides traditional library programs, children, youth and adult programs, summer programs, public access computers with internet connections, free computer classes, and free Wi-Fi. Royse City Senior Center, Ages 60 and Over:
A $1.25 lunch is served Monday through Friday, beginning at 11:30am. The center offers senior trips including concerts in Greenville, the Choctaw Casino, the Rockwall Playhouse, the Texas State Fair, and the Joe T. Garcia and Sundance Square in Fort Worth. Other activities include birthday parties and bingo. The senior center is located in the meeting room of the Royse City Fire Department on the corner of Main Street and Plum Street. Annual Royce City Fun Fest, Oct:
Activities include the annual Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast at the First United Methodist Church (305 N. Josephine Street), the Stick Robinson Memorial 5k and 1 mile Fun Run, the Carter Blood Care blood drive at the post office, arts and crafts, food vendors, a carnival, a truck pull, a pie eating contest, a hula hoop contest, a Martial arts demonstration, a children’s pageant, music, raffles and the annual Girl Scout Spaghetti Dinner at the (305 N. Annual Pumpkin Patch & Trick or Treat on Main Street, 31st Oct:
The Pumpkin Patch is open during the month of October. Activities at the Trick or Treat on Main Street event include face painting, games, a bounce house, popcorn and cotton candy, and trick or treating; wear costumes. This event is hosted by the Royse City Main Street Office. (927) 636-2184.
