Kirby, Texas
Kirby Texas History:
In 1877, the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway established a station in the area; the agricultural town of Kirby grew up around the station. By 1900, it had a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, and 100 residents. The Kirby post office operated from 1907 to 1916 when service was discontinued and mail was routed through Converse. Kirby incorporated in 1955. By this time Kirby had become a residential area with many residents employed at Randolph Air Force Base and in the City of San Antonio. Kirby is located at the intersection of FM 78 (Seguin Road) and Binz-Engleman Road, 9 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio, 4.8 miles south of Windcrest, 40.5 miles southwest of Startzville and Canyon Lake, 27.5 miles southwest of New Braunfels, 28.7 miles southwest of Seguin, 13.3 miles southwest of Cibolo, 10 miles southwest of Schertz, 9 miles southwest of Universal City and Randolph Air Force Base, 6.3 miles southwest of Converse, 13.5 miles northwest of Adkins, and 20.5 miles northwest of Elmendorf, Texas.
Old Town Kirby:
Kirby City Hall, the fire department, the post office and the town’s older homes are located in this area. The area is bounded by Old Seguin Road, FM 78, and Gibbs Sprawl Road.

The library provides traditional library programs, children, youth and adult programs, summer programs, public access computers with internet connections, and free Wi-Fi. Kirby Senior Citizen Center:
The center offers activities, programs including exercise classes and line dancing, a monthly birthday celebration featuring the Silverado’s band, lunches, the annual crowning of the Hobo King and Queen, trips and more. Annual Kirby VFD HOBO Festival, First Weekend in May:
Activities include arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, a Saturday at noon BBQ dinner, a Saturday at 5pm auction, a Talent Show at 1pm on Sunday, the Margarita Pour-Off Contest, children’s activities, a carnival, live music, karaoke and a car show.
