Kingwood Texas History:
The 14,000 acre Kingwood suburban residential community is a project of the Friendswood Development Company, an Exxon subsidiary. A prior owner of the property named Kingwood after the King Ranch in South Texas. Kingwood is located on the East Fork of the San Jacinto River northeastern Harris County. Plans for the community include greenbelts, shopping centers, schools, churches, recreational facilities, riding and hiking trails, and a boat ramp giving access to Lake Houston. Students attend Humble ISD schools. Kingwood was annexed by Houston by 2000. The 1992, population was 37,397. Kingwood is located on U.S. 59 (Eastex Freeway), 37.4 miles northwest of La Porte, 36 miles northwest of Baytown, 55 miles southwest of Livingston, 17.5 miles northwest of Sheldon, 28 miles west of Liberty, 59 miles southeast of Huntsville, 28.6 miles southeast of Conroe, 39 miles southeast of Tomball, 19 miles southeast of Spring, 26.6 miles northeast of downtown Houston , and 7.6 miles northeast of Humble, Texas.
