McQueeney Texas History:
In approximately 1870, German settlers began moving into the area. In 1876, the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway built a line through the area and named the railroad stop Hilda. In 1900, C. F. Blumberg built a store a mile east of the rail stop. Hoping to persuade the railroad to move the stop from Hilda to his store, he called the site McQueeney, in honor of the superintendent of the Southern Pacific line. The railroad did not move the stop from Hilda to the store site. The McQueeney post office opened in 1900 at the railroad stop.In 1925, Lake McQueeney was formed by building a dam was across the Guadalupe River a mile northwest of town. The lake was also known as Lake Abbott, and became a popular recreation and summer home site. McQueeney is located on the Guadalupe River on FM 78, 9 miles east of New Braunfels, 31 miles east of San Antonio, and 4 miles west of Seguin, Texas.
