Little Elm, Texas
Little Elm Texas History:
Little Elm was established by Kit King on the banks of Little Elm Creek in 1844. The Little Elm post office was established in his home in 1852. In 1859 the first store opened. In 1866 a larger store opened a mile east of town; the post office was moved to this store and changed its name to Hilltown. In the 1950s, the town had 200 residents and 5 businesses. The town began to grow in the late 1950s due to lake tourism and the town’s proximity to Denton. The community incorporated as Little Elm in 1966. 22 miles of Lewisville Lake shoreline are included in the town’s city limits. Little Elm is located on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake on FM 720 (West Eldorado Parkway), just south of Oak Point, 15 miles northeast of Lewisville and 12 miles southeast of Denton, Texas.
Little Elm Library:
The library provides traditional library programs, children, youth and adult programs, cultural programs, reservable meeting spaces, summer programs, public access computers with internet connections, and free Wi-Fi. Brenda Button Mills Senior Citizens Center:
The city provides a variety of programs for senior citizens including luncheons, arts and crafts, Wii Tournament games, benefit classes, cultural events, a movie day, AARP driver safety courses, fitness classes, crafts classes, free hearing screenings, Vitamin B12 shots, games, social gatherings and more. Big Orange Pumpkin (Patch) Farm, Celina:
There are hundreds of pumpkins to choose from. Activities include a spider hay bale, a roping pen, hay stacks, feeding animals, viewing goats on the goat bridge, and a hay ride. A $7 admission fee includes the hay ride, feed for the animals and a small or mid-sized pumpkin. The entry fee includes hot dogs on weekends. Children under 2 are free, but do not receive a pumpkin. Drinks and snacks are sold separately. A farm train is available on weekends for an additional fee. Their facilities are available for event rentals. Event Venues - Little Elm Community Center & Little Elm Park Facilities:
Community Center amenities include an event room, restrooms and a kitchen. The center is located at 107 Hardwicke Lane. (972) 731-3296. The Little Elm Park Amphitheater and Pavilion are available for event rentals. The park is located at 704 West Eldorado Parkway off FM 720 in Little Elm; take Park Road northeast of the bridge.
Annual Woofstock and 2nd Chance Camp, Oct:
This event promotes the adoption of abandoned dogs. All dogs at this event have their shots and have been spayed or neutered. All proceeds benefit the future Little Elm Animal Shelter. Activities include live music, vendors, kid’s entertainment, raffle drawings, contests, a dog agility exhibition, onsite pet adoptions, and visiting abandoned pets. Low cost vaccinations will be available at the park entrance. This event is held from 1pm-6pm at Little Elm Park. Admission is free. (972) 292-3551. Lucy’s Moms on Main Restaurant, Aubrey, TX:
This restaurant is owned and managed by the Steve Murray family, former owners of the popular Lucy’s on the Square in Celina. Steve has kept the menu the same and still serves the same great food such as chicken fried steak and gravy, homemade rolls, fried green tomatoes, and homemade pies. Lucy’s on the Square in Celina was written up in December, 2008 Texas Monthly while the restaurant was under his ownership and management.
