Lake Dallas, Texas
Lake Dallas Texas History:
The town was originally named French Settlement and was settled by 1852. In 1881, the Dallas and Wichita Railway built through the area and French Settlement was renamed Garza. When Lake Dallas was impounded by the Garza Dam in 1927, Garza changed its name to Lake Dallas. In 1955, construction began on the larger Lake Dallas which created a larger lake. This dam was later breached and the two lakes combined creating the larger Lake Lewisville. Essentially a resort town, Lake Dallas has had continued growth due to lake tourism seeking and the town’s proximity to the City of Denton. The town incorporated in 1965. Lake Dallas is located on IH-35E/U.S. 77 at mid-lake on the western shore of Lake Lewisville at the west end of the Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge, 2 miles south of Corinth, 6.4 miles northwest of Lewisville, 5 miles northeast of Highland Village, 2 miles southeast of Hickory Creek and 9.7 miles southeast of Denton, Texas.
