Lago Vista Texas History:
Lago Vista was developed on the north shore of Lake Travis in the late 1960s as a lake town resort and retirement community. It incorporated in the early 1980s. It has two golf courses and few businesses. The Lago Vista Golf Course began as a 9-hole course; shortly thereafter it was expanded to 18-holes. By 1980, the World of Resorts Country Club was completed; this 18-hole course was later renamed the Highland Lakes Golf Course. Both courses faced financial difficulties over the years. The City of Lago Vista now owns both golf courses. The majority of the town’s tax revenue comes from residents. The town is located across the lake from Pace Bend Park on the eastern edge of a portion of the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.
