Ledbetter Texas History:
Ledbetter was named for an early pioneer family. The 1870 arrival of the railroad brought prosperity during the 1870s and 1880s. It began to decline after La Grange, the Fayette County seat, began to grow. During its early years the town incorporated, but disincorporated in 1947. The town’s major industry is gravel. It annually produces approximately 100,000 cubic yards of crushed rock, which is primarily used for road construction. Ledbetter is located between the Colorado River and Yegua Creek, at the intersection of U.S. 290 and FM 1291, 35 miles northeast of Smithville, 19.7 miles northeast of La Grange, 9 miles east of Giddings, 31 miles southwest of Somerville, 25 miles west of Brenham, 6.6 miles west of Carmine, 24 miles northwest of Fayetteville, and 8.8 miles northwest of Round Top, Texas.
