Gun Barrel City Texas History:
Gun Barrel City was developed in the 1960s after Cedar Creek Lake was formed. The town incorporated in 1969 so local establishments could sell beer and wine. The name originated from Gun Barrel Lane which became SH 198; it was a shortcut connecting Mabank and Seven Points, Texas. Gun Barrel City joined a list of towns with names referenced to guns including Winchester, Point Blank, Gunfight, and Cut and Shoot, Texas. Gun Barrel City is located on the east side of the SH 334 Cedar Creek Reservoir Bridge at the intersections of SH 334 (Main Street), U.S. 175 and SH 198 (3rd Street), 60 miles southeast of Dallas, 25.8 miles southeast of Kaufman, 25.4 miles southwest of Canton, 5 miles southwest of Mabank, 56 miles west of Tyler, 44.5 miles west of Chandler and Lake Palestine, 21 miles northwest of Athens, 17.5 miles northwest of Malakoff, 9.5 miles northwest of Eustace, 29 miles northeast of the Richland Chamber Reservoir, 25 miles northeast of Kerens, and 40 miles northeast of Corsicana, Texas

Annual July Fest and Concert in Gun Barrel City Park:
This event features food vendors, live music, a singling contest, children’s activities, and fireworks. An admission fee applies 2010 entertainment included Sean McConnell, Bart Crow, Derek Sholl, Johnny Cooper, and No Justice. This event is held the first Saturday and Sunday in July. Annual Fall Fest, Oct:
Activities include BBQ brisket and Bean cook-offs, a cornhole tournament, arts and crafts, lawn mower races, a Kidz Koncert, live music and more. This event is open from 10am-11pm. (903) 887-1087.   
 
Annual Christmas Parade and Fireworks, First Saturday in December:
Activities include a parade, Santa Claus on a fire truck, photos in the Santa Room, fireworks, and more. Nearby communities participate in this parade of over 65 floats. The parade begins and ends at Gun Barrel City Park on Municipal Drive, North of Church Street. (903) 887-1087.
