Concan Texas History:
The first log cabin was built by Theophilus Watkins in the 1860s. The Concan post office was established in 1880.In 1884, Concan had a blacksmith shop and approximately 150 residents, and was shipping wool and beef. In 1894, the post office was discontinued; it reopened in 1900 in John S. Caddel’s and his brother’s store. During the late 1920s the town had began to attract tourists. In the late 1930s, a sawmill was constructed and began producing cedar, wild cherry, cypress, and walnut lumber. Today the Concan economy is supported by hunters and tourists visiting the Frio River and Garner State Park. Concan is located on the Frio River at the intersections of U.S. 83, SH 127 and CR 348 (River Road), 20.5 miles northwest of Sabinal, 17.7 miles south of Leakey, 34.4 miles southwest of Vanderpool, 38 miles southwest of Camp Wood, 24 miles southwest of Utopia, 63 miles northeast of Brackettville, 23.6 miles northeast of Uvalde, Texas.

Buckhorn Bar & Grill Live Music:

Annual Freedom Fest, March:
Activities include a BBQ cook-off, a bake-off, horseshoe and washer tournaments, local talent, vendors and children’s activities. Food cook-off categories include fajitas, ribs, beans, BBQ sauce, chicken, brisket, appetizers, and desserts. This event is held at the Frio Country Campground at 1801 CR 348 (River Road), Concan. Annual Nature Quest Festival, End of April:
Activities include wildlife and plant workshops led by experts, information on creating a backyard wildlife habitat, field trips, kayaking, a bat tour and other programs. Annual UtopiaFest Music and Art Festival in Utopia Texas, Sept:
Tickets are limited to 1,500 so purchase tickets early. This two day camp out festival takes place in a natural amphitheater on the 1,000 acre Four Sisters Ranch located between Garner State Park (Concan) and Lost Maples at Vanderpool. World touring bands provide a variety of music genres including rock, bluegrass, Americana, Indie, folk, Latin, and Japanese punk. House Pasture Cattle Company, Concan:
They are known for their mesquite grilled steaks and live music. This is a private club; membership is free. Facilities and amenities include Wi-Fi, cabins, lodge rooms, RV sites, and tent camping. The Friday and Saturday night Backyard Snack Shack offers pizza, snacks, and kids beverages. Wednesday night is karaoke night. The outdoor concert patio offers dining and live music. The Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop is located here. Readers of Texas Ride magazine have 4 times selected the store as the #1 hangout for bikers.
