Concan Texas History:
The first log cabin was built by Theophilus Watkins in the 1860s. The Concan post office was established in 1880.In 1884, Concan had a blacksmith shop and approximately 150 residents, and was shipping wool and beef. In 1894, the post office was discontinued; it reopened in 1900 in John S. Caddel’s and his brother’s store. During the late 1920s the town had begun to attract tourists. In the late 1930s, a sawmill was constructed and began producing cedar, wild cherry, cypress, and walnut lumber. Today the Concan economy is supported by hunters and tourists visiting the Frio River and Garner State Park.
