Dawson, Texas
Dawson Texas History:
In 1847, San Jacinto Battle veteran Britton Dawson established a cattle ranch in the area. The community that developed remained small until the St. Louis Southwestern Railway built a narrow-gauge line from Corsicana to Waco in 1881. Dawson became a supply and shipping center for area ranchers and farmers. The Dawson post office was established in 1882. The town incorporated in 1908. The Battle Creek Memorial is located in town. In 1926, Dawson had two cotton gins, two banks, a bottling plant, a telephone exchange, a cottonseed oil mill and three miles of paved streets. Dawson is located at the intersections of FM 709, FM 642 (Main Street) and SH 31, 4 miles south of Navarro Mills Lake, 36 miles northeast of Waco, 6.6 miles northeast of Hubbard, 43 miles southeast of Whitney and Lake Whitney State Park, 30 miles southeast of Hillsboro, 79 miles south of Dallas, 50 miles south of Waxahachie, 43 miles slightly southwest of Ennis and Bardwell Lake, 28 miles southwest of Kerens, 24 miles southwest of Richland and Richland Chambers Lake and WMA, 21 miles southwest of Corsicana, 52 miles northwest of Fairfield, 40 miles northwest of Groesbeck, and 29.5 miles northwest of Mexia, Texas. 
Pelham Community History Museum, Pelham, TX:
The Pelham museum features artifacts, documents, and photos depicting the history of the town. The museum is located in the 1890 school. Email for appointments and school tours. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. The museum is located at 22535 FM 744. Pelham is located at the intersection of FM 744 and CR 3280, 1 mile northwest of Navarro Mills Lake, 22.6 miles southeast of Hillsboro, 25 miles southwest of Corsicana, 20 miles northwest of Dawson via Hubbard, and 13.6 miles north of Hubbard, Texas. Eden Creek Farm, Blooming Grove, TX:
Steve and Kristine Orth grow and sell organic produce including fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts.They also raise rabbits, goats, chickens, and turkeys. Future plans include adding greenhouses, a vineyard and winery. Produce memberships are available. They offer vegetable gardening, butchering, and candle making classes. (903) 695-0730. Central Texas Astronomical Society Monthly Stargazing Parties, Hubbard, TX:
These public star gazing programs take place in the City of Hubbard in Hill County. Telescopes are provided, though you may bring your own telescope and binoculars.
