Cat Spring History:
In 1834, a group of German immigrants from Westphalia and Oldenburg settled on the west bank of Bernard Creek near the San Bernard River. Many of these immigrants were drawn to Texas because of the letters of Friedrich Ernst who settled Industry, Texas. The name Cat Spring was adopted after the son of original settler Leopold von Roeder killed a puma at one of the San Bernard River springs located near the family farm. The first Agricultural Society in Texas was formed in Cat Spring after the Civil War. The Cat Spring area is nationally known for its extensive show horse farms.In 2000, the town had 13 businesses. Cat Spring is located at the intersection of FM 2187 and FM 949, 31 miles southeast of Fayetteville, 34 miles slightly southeast of Brenham, 18 miles southeast of Industry, 10.4 miles southwest of Bellville, 64 miles northwest of Houston, 26 miles northwest of Wallis, 18.5 miles northwest of San Felipe, 13 miles northwest of Sealy, and 19 miles northeast of Columbus, Texas.

Cat Spring Agricultural Society Dance Hall:
The Agricultural Society was formed by German and Czech farmers; it was housed in an eight sided building where farmers kept and shared records of his planting and production; it was the first Agricultural Society formed in Texas. Annual Houston Rodeo Salt Grass Trail Ride, Cat Spring to Houston, Feb:  
This 100.7 mile trail ride was established in 1952. The ride begins in Cat Spring, Texas. The 2015 trail ride began on Saturday, February 21, and included 1,400 riders and 25 wagons. Saturday night was spent in Walker Pasture, 10382 FM 2187, Cat Spring. Sunday lunch was spent on FM 949, just before Schaffner Road. Sunday night was spent at the Austin County Fairgrounds, at 1076 East Hill Street, Bellville. Monday lunch was at Cochran Store at 10711 FM 159 E, Bellville. Monday night was spent at the Waller County Fairgrounds in Hempstead. The fairgrounds are located at 22000 Fairground Road, on FM 359, south of Business U.S. 290, and just north of Bar Circle Ranch. Tuesday lunch was spent at Monaville Hall on Cochran Road. The night was spent at the Miller Farms pasture, 17.3 miles from the Waller County Fairgrounds. Wednesday lunch was on Beckendorff Road, and the night was spent at Katy Park, 24927 Morton Road, Katy, 77493. Thursday lunch was held at Cullen Park, 19008 Saums Road, Houston, 77084. Thursday night was spent at the Houston Farm & Ranch Club at 1 Abercrombie Drive Houston, 77084. Friday lunch was held on the Southwest corner of Kemp Forest and Gessner. Biannual Cat Spring Antiques & Garden Show, 2nd Weekend in March & Sept:
Activities include antiques, a farmer’s market, plants and flowers sales, and food. Open Sat, 9am-5pm; Sun, 10am-4pm. This event is held at the Cat Spring Agricultural Hall at13035 FM 1094 in Cat Spring, 10 miles northwest of Sealy. (979) 865-5618.

Annual Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department BBQ, April:  
Activities include entertainment and activities, a 5pm barbeque dinner, and a 7pm auction. This event is held at the Cat Spring Agricultural Society Dance Hall at 13035 Hall Road, Cat Spring, 78933, 10 miles northwest of Sealy, Texas.

Buffalo Creek Winery, Bellville, TX:
Steve and Kathy Herbst’s tasting room serves wine, beer and food. The winery is open for tastings and sales Fri-Sat, 4pm-10pm. Call for occasional Sunday opening times. If the gate is open, come on in. They host periodic dinners and live music; visitors are welcomed even if not eating dinner. They also host private parties. (979) 865-0702. A gazebo sits on a small island in the middle of a small lake; access is via a pretty bridge. Ranch activities include catch and release fishing in stocked lakes, viewing ranch animals, nature walks, horseback riding, birding, massages, stagecoach rides, trap shooting, and archery.
